Common questions
How is this different from a NOAA marine forecast?+
A NOAA forecast gives everyone the same numbers. GoNoGo WX reads those numbers against the wind, wave, and visibility limits you set for your own boat, then gives you one plain GO, CAUTION, or NO-GO call to help you decide. It is built on official NOAA and NWS data, but it does not replace it.
Does it work for sailboats and powerboats?+
Both, and not in the same way. A powerboat only needs to know when the wind is too much. A sailing hull has a second line underneath: pick one of the sailboat types and the day is also scored on whether there is enough wind to sail, so a glassy Saturday reads as the motoring day it is instead of a perfect one. Wind limits, sea limits, draft and air draft are all yours to set.
Where does the data come from?+
Live NOAA buoys, NWS coastal and marine forecasts, and marine wave models. Data can be delayed or incomplete, so it is for reference and situational awareness, not a guarantee.
Can I check conditions along a route?+
Yes. Enter a departure and destination and it checks the conditions leg by leg along the way, so you can anticipate the rough stretch and make a more informed decision.
